Swiss Embassy Singapore

Swiss Embassy Singapore

The concept for the extension and refurbishment of the Swiss Embassy Singapore faces equipping the building for the next 60 years and maximising its flexibility of use. The structure of the existing building will be continued and the usable space increased. All uses will be accommodated under one large roof. The roof protects against the tropical weather, responds to the different rooms and is used to generate energy. The driveway will be redesigned and organised on the west façade. This will ensure that official guests of the embassy are duly received. The entrances for the visa section and the Swiss Tourism Office are orientated towards the street. Visitors reach the public areas at ground level. Employees can enter the building via the staff entrance (airlock) on the south side or reach their workstations via the car park (airlock). The offices are laid out on one level and can be flexibly designed with open-plan offices as well as individual offices.

There is a tropical garden in the centre, where the cafeteria is located. This is conditioned as an interior space and receives natural light through an overhead light, which is filtered by the photovoltaic cells and an internal screen. The plants and trees provide a pleasant climate and a good quality of stay. Great attention is paid to the flexibility of the rooms so that the building can be adapted to constantly changing requirements. The office space allows room for additional workstations. The entrance hall is a prestigious reception area for official guests. The hall can be used for many other functions. The conference room can be opened up and used for larger lectures, events and exhibitions. The architectural design is optimised in its entirety with regard to low life cycle costs. The interior fit-out is designed for a moderate use of resources and utilises them in a targeted and economical manner. Constructions and materials are consistently used in accordance with the recommendations of environmentally relevant standards and are adapted to the warm and humid climate.
